AtomRC F405 Navi Delux != F405 Navi

Turns out the F405 Navi Delux that ships with the AtomRC Dolphin Pro is NOT the same as the non-delux versions that came with the original Dolphin. Additionally it does not seem to be the same flight controller that is offered on their website to buy as a standalone unit either.

Consequence:

As of writing this entry, ArduPilot currently has NO WORKING FIRMWARE to flash onto it. ArduPilot has supported the F405 Navi (non delux) version for quite a while now and there are stable versions of it, however, there are no Beta versions, letalone Stable versions for the delux edition.

TL:DR:

If you intend on getting the AtomRC Dolphin Pro RTH version thinking it is ready to flash Ardupilot or PX4, at least as of writing this entry, DO NOT GET IT, stick with the PNP version. Either that, or make sure to get your own flight controller afterwards.

How we found out:

Today we tried flashing ArduPilot to the F405 Navi Delux directly, only to find that nothing would work. We had been downloading the F405 Navi firmware and later realised that the Delux and non Delux versions are very different, despite sharing the same name.

By the time we had realised our mistake and flashed Inav back, it was already too late. All the original factory settings were wiped... On the bright side, by configuring EVERYTHING and figuring out how to do everything from scratched, we gained a significant amount of knowledge in Inav as well as the capabilities of these flight controllers.

What is working now:

  • VTX

  • VRX

  • ELRS Controllers

  • Control Surfaces

  • Propulsion

Where we are now:

Everything seems to have been configured now, so all that is left to do is seemingly fly it and dial it in. The autonomous features do not seem to work and the GPS is lackluster... Hopefully we will not need to rely on any of these features and we can fly it normally.
